Peer mentor training for Sixth Formers

Sixth form pupils who volunteer are trained as peer mentors within their schools so that they can support younger pupils with either behavioural and/or academic issues.
The aim is to both develop the confidence and communication skills of the sixth form pupils as well as to benefit the younger pupils with whom they work.
The aims of the programme can be tailored to suit your school requirements (e.g. dealing with bullying) and all of the materials required to implement and sustain the project are included in the training programme package.
Following peer mentor training you’ll have a group of sixth form pupils who are:
- excited about using their new found mentoring skills
- eager to help other pupils overcome their problems in school
- ready to take on responsibility and improve their status in school
Outcomes
- Increased mentor and mentee confidence
- Improved mentor and mentee communication and organisational skills
- Improved class attendance (mentees)
‘The mentors were enjoying the experience and felt that they had seen definite improvements in the attitudes, confidence and study skills of their mentees. They felt they were having a positive impact and could see quite quickly where their help was needed. They had also benefited personally by improving their own confidence and communication and organisational skills.’ – Sixth Form Peer Mentor
