E-mentoring
Online one-to-one mentoring
Online mentor programmes are available to schools that allow mentors and mentees to contact each other via email using a secure email system called e-Mentor Pro.
The secure software offers the convenience of mentoring exchanges at times which suit the individuals but does not allow the exchange of personal email addresses, home addresses or telephone numbers.
The e-mentoring programmes are monitored to view the frequency and content quality of the email exchanges.
Can be used as a stand alone mentoring programme or to support other mentoring schemes, such as:
- extend Gifted and Talented pupils
- raise attainment for C/D borderline GCSE pupils
- subject specific support
- to encourage engagement in curriculum areas identified for improvement
There are no minimum numbers required for these schemes.
Outcomes
- Increased retention into sixth form
- 85% increase in desire to attend university
- 78% said that they had benefited directly from having a mentor
- 56% said that their mentor had played a role in helping them to choose which university/course would suit them best (the remaining 44% were mainly too young to be at this stage)
