What are the benefits for schools?

Mentoring is increasingly being used in schools as it offers numerous benefits such as:

  • raising the educational aspirations and academic attainment of underachieving pupils
  • reducing bullying and tackling undesirable behaviour
  • raising academic achievement
  • contributing towards meeting OFSTED targets
  • meeting the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda
  • supporting newly qualified teachers
  • developing pupil confidence and communication skills
  • improving pupil relationships and responsibilities in school

Mentoring relationships can make a difference to all those involved - from the mentee who enjoys the chance to talk and be listened to by someone who doesn’t judge them or their behaviours. To the mentor who discovers how good it can feel using their time and experience to help someone reach their potential.
