Vice-Chancellor

Professor Quintin McKellar
Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hertfordshire from 4 January 2011
Professor McKellar was previously Principal of The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) of the University of London, a position which he held for six years.
The Royal Veterinary College was the first and is the largest veterinary school in the UK. It was the top English veterinary school in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise and more than doubled its research income (£13.1million in 2009/10) during Professor McKellar’s tenure.
Quintin McKellar graduated from Glasgow Vet School in 1981. He went on to gain his PhD in Veterinary Parasitology in 1984 and was appointed to a lectureship at the Veterinary School in the same year. He became Head of the Veterinary Pharmacology Department in 1990, and was also appointed to the Veterinary Products Committee in 1993.
He was awarded a personal professorship by Glasgow Vet School in 1996 and in August 1997 Professor McKellar took up the post of Scientific Director of Moredun Research Institute and Chief Executive of the Moredun Foundation.
His research interests are in the pharmacology of anti-infective and anti-inflammatory drugs in domestic animals.
Professor McKellar lives in Hertfordshire and is married with four children. Whilst he is a keen sporting enthusiast generally, rowing has always been his passion; he competed in the 1986 Commonwealth Games and more recently is an enthusiastic member of the Broxbourne masters team.
