Pro Vice-Chancellor (Regional Affairs)

Dr Stephen Boffey
Dr Stephen Boffey was appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor (Regional Affairs) in 2006.
He is responsible for promoting the University’s key role in the economic prosperity, educational and cultural development of the region. He has oversight of:
- community engagement
- recruitment and admissions policy
- the Academic Partnerships Office
- UHArts
- Centre for Sustainable Communities
He sits on the Boards of UVAC and EValu8 Transport Innovations Ltd, and chairs the Hertfordshire Climate Change Partnership.
Dr Boffey was previously the University’s Director of Admissions, and Associate Dean (Academic Quality) for the Faculty of Natural Sciences.
He joined the University as a lecturer in Biochemistry after completing undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Cambridge and postdoctoral fellowships in the Universities of Marseille and York.
Dr Boffey has published many research papers in addition to books, a patent, and a wide range of chapters in molecular biology textbooks.
He served on the Council of the Society for Experimental Biology and on the Biosciences Advisory Group of the HE Academy.
Dr Boffey is a Fellow and former Vice-President of the Institute of Biology (now The Society of Biology), and a trustee of Herts Setpoint.
