Hertfordshire Sports Village win 'Lifeguard Team of the Year 2014' award.

Lifeguards at the Hertfordshire Sports Village have won the 'Lifeguard Team of the Year 2014' award at the Royal Life Saving Society (RLSS) and Institute of Qualified Lifeguards (IQL) awards ceremony at the Hilton Metropole Hotel, Birmingham.

Raise the standard

This award recognises and celebrates those who continually raise the standard and make such a valuable contribution to pool safety and drowning prevention.

Rescue and resuscitation

The lifeguard team was nominated following the successful rescue and resuscitation of gym member John Rowland who suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming at the Sports Village pool last October.

Nick Brooking, Director of Sport, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for Hertfordshire Sports Village. It recognises all of the staff who are part of the Sports Village's service provision which makes a commitment to investment in staff training and customer safety at all times".

Winning team

The team's award was collected by representatives of the University's Sports Village lifeguard team and Duty Manager David Springthorpe. The winning lifeguards include Ben Taylor, Michelle Dalmeida, Grant Vinten and Natalie Davidson.
