A final year student studying event management at the University of Hertfordshire hopes she has what it takes to win an Apprentice style competition with a graduate job up for grabs.

One of fifteen

Elena Clowes, 21, is one of fifteen finalists in ESP Recruitment's national Eventice competition, where final year students from across the country compete to win up to two jobs in the events industry. This year's positions are available at George P Johnson in Kingston for the third year running and Bluehat in London.

Elena was chosen after uploading a short entry video onto YouTube about herself and why she felt she deserved to win. The applicants were narrowed down to the final fifteen and have now been invited to London to take part in a series of tasks over three days, which showcase their ability to multi task, organise, lead, projects management, negotiate, network and present.

Once in a lifetime opportunity

Elena said: "The events industry is very competitive and difficult for graduates to get into so this chance is fantastic - the jobs on offer are once in a lifetime opportunities. I am looking forward to meeting all of the other students in the final and having the chance to network with industry professionals. I am also looking forward to finding out what our tasks will be – it'll be nerve wracking but exciting!"

This year's final takes place between Monday 10 February – Wednesday 12 February, where their skills will be assessed by a group of industry professionals and after the finalists make a presentation on the final day, the winners will be announced and offered a job on the spot.

Elena added: "Winning the Eventice would mean I have a graduate job secured in an amazing company and I'd be able to work in an industry that I am passionate about. I surprised myself by getting to this stage but to win would be fantastic – I'd be over the moon."

Getting graduates jobs

The Eventice began in 2011 and was successfully launched in Dubai in 2013. Since its launch, twelve students have been placed in graduate roles over the past three years and this is a direct result of them taking part in the Eventice. Past companies include leading industry professionals Blitz Communications, Excel London and Tarsus Exhibitions.
