Graduate exhibits solo works in Hatfield House

9 September 2013

Former student Fiona Chaney, who graduated with BA(Hons) Fine Art in 2010, found that learning new skills in her course allowed her to progress in her career path.

Today Fiona has many group exhibitions across London and in Austria. Fiona's solo exhibition of paintings and drawings are now displayed in Hatfield House to celebrate the artistic and cultural diversity as part of the HATFEST 2013, an arts and cultural event that began in July 2013 with funding from The Royal Opera Bridge Fund and Mary Portas Fund. As the exhibition has been well received, it has also been announced that Fiona is permitted to have the space long term.

In the early stages of Fiona's career, she was trained initially at the London School of Contemporary Dance and the Juilliard School of Performing Arts in NYC and worked as a performing artist. After working as a choreographer and then lecturing for over fifteen years at Oaklands College, her inspiration to work on her own art practise lead her to apply to the Fine Art programme in 2007.

'My degree has allowed me to experiment with my art forms in an interdisciplinary way, using 2D and 3D works along with time-based video projections and installations.  I have also continued to develop my painting and printmaking skills which often became the basis for the ideas that lay behind my larger works.'

A future project that Fiona is also working on is with the local council, in attempts to continue developing projects for Hatfield Town for studio spaces and gallery exhibition space for students leaving their final year. Fiona hopes that this will be part of a more sustainable and long term arts and cultural programme for Hatfield.
