SSAHRI awards 7 research grants

4 July 2013

The Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities Research Institute has awarded 7 research grants for projects to be completed in 2013-14.

The grants are awarded as a result of an annual competition for new and early career researchers in the schools of Business, Creative Arts, Education, Humanities and Law.

The competition also provides researchers with the experience of undertaking funding applications, typically ahead of seeking external grants.

This year's winners, following applications from four of the five schools in SSAHRI, were as follows:

  • Alison Gazzard (Creative Arts) - 'Looking back at the Micro: Alternative histories of 1980s British Computing'
  • David Gibbs (Law) - 'Non-Executives, Corporate Governance and Multiple Directorships: Aligning interests and reducing agency problems'
  • Fang Ma (Law) - 'The Protection of Shareholder's Rights in England and China: A Comparative Study'
  • Sylvie Magerstädt (Humanities) - 'Mere Illusions? - Philosophy, Myth and Hollywood Cinema'
  • Joanne McDowell (Humanities) - 'Doing being a Primary School teacher: Does Gender Play a Role?'
  • Anne Murphy (Humanities) - 'The World of Samuel and Elizabeth Jeake, 1660 – 1714'
  • Elizabeth White (Education) - 'Experiences of new school-based teacher educators'
