Hertfordshire Sports Village strength and conditioning staff support and coached:

  • GB Air Rifle Shooter James Huckle.
  • Athletes on the GB Goalball squad.
  • GB Wheelchair Basketball athletes.
  • David Clarke who was captain of the GB blind football team at London 2012.
  • The University hosted training sessions for international teams and athletes prior to the London 2012 Olympics - British Virgin Islands, St Kitts and Nevis, Afghanistan.
  • Alumnus Nicki Combarro runs BodyBalance Physio and Sports Injury Clinic at Hertfordshire Sports Village. She worked for Team GB during London 2012 looking after the cycling team and other sports as a lead physio. She also worked at Beijing, Delhi and other World Championships.
  • Nick Juba, a swimming coach at the Hertfordshire Sports Village, was the Team GB Olympic sprint coach in London 2012 and trained many of the 2012 hopefuls.
  • University of Hertfordshire graduate and Sports Village employee Andy Butterworth worked with GB Badminton and the British Canoe Union on video analysis for London 2012.
  • The University part funded 'Hertfordshire is Ready for Winners' - a multi-partner organisation set up to help the county to make the most of the Olympics in terms of education, tourism, business, culture and sport.
  • We support Olympians and Paralympians on the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme which provides services to athletes in education.
  • One of our students ran a 5-mile course of the Olympic Village in March 2012 to raise money for charity before the London 2012 Games.
  • A number of our staff and students were selected to take part in the opening and closing ceremonies for the London 2012 Games.
  • Senior Lecturer, Brandon Crimes represents the University on Enjoy! Hertfordshire, the Tourism and Leisure Partnership for the county responsible for promoting Hertfordshire as a tourist destination. The partnership won ‘Most Innovative 2012 Olympics Local Tourism Partnership’ at the British Travel Awards 2011. 
  • Brandon Crimes, Senior Lecturer in Tourism Management, was involved with establishing and convening the first Olympic Special Interest Group with the Higher Education Academy.
  • We ran 2 'Olympic' modules in Hertfordshire Business School in 2012: Olympic impacts and legacies and Olympic festivals and events.
