Dr Ian F Bitterlin

58 years old, Ian has been married to Lynne for 39 years and the family lives in the Cotswold Hills in the UK. Hobbies include classic automobiles, including his Coventry built 1949 Drop Head Coupe Daimler and clay-pigeon shooting.

With a BA in Mathematics, a First Class BSc(Hons) in Technology, a postgraduate Diploma in Design & Innovation and an Honorary Doctorate in Management, Ian’s career has taken him from the design office through site installation, application engineering, service and sales to senior management.

Steve Phipps MBCS CDCDP

Over 16 years of operational systems management experience, specifically managing data centres since 1996.

After a stint managing data centres and IT operations in the UK and Ireland, joined ambitious web hosting company GlobalCenter who were expanding from the US into Europe. Sitting on the senior management team, oversaw the building of five data centres in London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Munich and Paris until Exodus Internet bought the company in 2001. There, moved into a more strategic role, dealing with blue chip customer issues and relationship management, process improvement and building a culture of continuous improvement.

Richard Smeeton

A first class honours graduate with wide experience of globally deploying and managing IT solutions and projects.

Specialisations include: Design, development and operation of converged voice and data networks, data centres, high availability systems infrastructure, server and storage architectures and information security.

Professor Andrew Starr

Professor Andrew Starr is the Director of the Centre for Sustainable Communities at the University of Hertfordshire, a new postgraduate centre of excellence in planning & development, transport policy and energy. The centre is a partnership, with many collaborators in the public and private sectors.

Howard Noble

Howard Noble leads requirements gathering initiatives for the computing services department at the University of Oxford. This involves using a variety of techniques (interviews, surveys, prototyping etc) to find out how to better support research, teaching and learning.

Pete Sands

Pete is Future-Tech’s Lead Data Centre Design Consultant, he has extensive experience working with both public & private sector clients.

Having been involved with the data centre industry for over 10 years Pete has a wealth of practical knowledge that can be applied to each project he works on. Starting his career as an engineer means Pete has a technical understanding of each phase of a Data Centre’s installation and how these phases interlink. His technical experience allows him to see potential problems before they happen and in turn design them out before they occur.

From feasibility, through design and installation, to practical completion Petes' years of experience give him an insight that is second to none.

Katherine O'Brien

Katherine O’Brien has worked at the University for two years and is based within the Environment Team in the Centre for Sustainable Communities. She works with colleagues across the University to raise awareness of environmental issues and to reduce the University’s environmental impact in terms of issues such as energy, waste and procurement.

Barry Lewington, CITP FISM MBCS

Barry is an IT Professional with over 30 years experience within IT operations. A Principal Consultant with PTS Consulting, Barry specialises in Data Centres, IT Governance and Service Management.

Barry has worked in and with data centres for most of his working life, and has developed a passion for the efficient and effective implementation and management of Data Centres for all industry sectors.
