A Guide to Lowering Your ICT Carbon from Data Centre to Desktop
8 September 2010
The University is recognised as a sector leader in environmental management, being placed in the top 5 universities on the People and Planet Green League over the last 3 years, shortlisted for two Datacenter Dynamics awards in 2009 and Finalist in the Green Gown awards 2010.
The conference came about because of the University’s JISC-sponsored project to Reduce and Re-Use Energy in Institutional Data Centres (RARE-IDC).
From the start the RARE-IDC project sought to incorporate low carbon sustainable solutions but also further establish the University as a national leader in sustainable ICT.
The grant funding from JISC has a number of dissemination objectives to achieve:
- To identify, evaluate and disseminate transferable good practice models in respect of the above.
- To work with the JISC community to share the experiences and approaches to assist other institutions to meet their goals.
- To provide a detailed guide for other institutions to follow to achieve the same levels of cooling, power and waste heat management efficiency.
- To collaborate generally with other green computing projects and specifically with the other institutions involved with the 'environmental sustainability' strand.
The conference was held at the University's Fielder Centre on the 8 September 2010.
