Introduction to Latin American Cinema
Assuming no formal training in film studies, this course provides an introduction to the study of Latin American cinema.
The course will look at how film texts can reflect, represent or even problematise questions of national identity and gender, and the extent to which films engage with social realities and/or other cultural forms. An attempt will be made to situate these films into their cinematic and socio-cultural contexts.
On completion of the course students should be able to; relate films to the cinematic, aesthetic, social, cultural Hispanic contexts in which they were produced; and analyse themes that shed light on Hispanic cultures.
