Thanks for Giving Me a Sky, But I Am Not a Bird - Augustin Rebetez
Meandering between drawing, photography sculpture and astonishing stop-motion animations, Augustin Rebetez’s work represents something completely individual and fresh.
Using a range of contemporary materials like plaster, masking tape, marker pens and plastic wrap, old roller skates, construction materials and car tyres, Rebetez is creating his own visual language.
Myth and fairytale are expressed with an underlying malevolence and supposedly joyous European traditions like carnival with an unexpected melancholy.
For his first UK solo exhibition, Rebetez will plaster the 4.5 metre high gallery walls with his signature large format self-adhesive photographs and drawings, and will with students on a collaborative wood and cardboard sculpture during the course of the installation.
