Needs Assessment Service

Get assessed on campus

The University of Hertfordshire is pleased to be able to offer students a Needs Assessment service on site.

This service is available to all students and staff at the University.

You will need to provide evidence of your Disabled Students Allowance agreement, which is a letter which you will receive after you have applied and they have agreed to your funding.

The Needs Assessment will identify any support which you would benefit from during your studies.

Your Needs Assessor will write a Needs Assessment Report which will list and justify any recommended Assistive Technology and Specialist Support you will need as well as:

  • how much it will cost
  • where to get it from
  • any specialist training you may need to make best use of the Assistive Technology

At the assessment

As soon as you receive your letter from your funding body you can book the assessment.

You should allow 2 hours for the assessment so the Needs Assessor can discuss your disability or difficulty and how it affects the way you learn.

You will be able to see specialist equipment, and try it in some cases. The Needs Assessor will discuss your needs and between you, you will decide what is likely to work for you on your course and a report will be written with those recommendations.

Assessment report

The report is shared with Disability Services who will contact you to encourage you to make an appointment to discuss any arrangements which need to be made for your studies.

At this appointment you can discuss with the Disability Adviser who you are happy for the report to be shared with.

It is your report so it is up to you to decide who sees that information.
