Electronics company makes waves with KTP

An electronic instrumentation company looking to globally expand has produced a competitive prototype with help from the University of Hertfordshire.

Making use of the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships scheme (KTP), Europe’s leading waveform generator manufacturer TTi is well-placed to reach the top end of a market dominated by US firms.

Business Challenge

TTi realised that in order to develop an advanced function generator and compete with the industry leaders it needed to increase expertise in specific areas and acquire skills to:

  • Digitally implement all required modulation modes
  • Provide the full remote control capabilities and interfaces necessary for integration of a generator into large automated test systems

How did the University of Hertfordshire help?

Our financially supported Knowledge Transfer Partnership scheme provided a solution by allowing TTi Ltd to meet and exceed the goal of building a fully proven production-ready prototype.

The KTP’s three way collaboration between the business, the University and two highly talented graduates, provided the resources to tackle the different aspects of the problem and create a successful solution.

Business Results

Progress on the project met and exceeded company expectations. The original aim to build a production-ready prototype was achieved ahead of schedule and so a Pilot Production build was also completed in the project timescale.

Improvements identified during the project led to the final instrument both exceeding the original target specification and outclassing the major competitors at its price-point.

The success of the project has strengthened relationships with academic University staff and led to a follow-on KTP in a related field.
