Simon Wood And Simon Pearson Clearhead
Simon Wood and Simon Pearson show how far University of Hertfordshire graduates can go within just one year of leaving the University.
Simon Wood, who graduated from the University with a BA(Hons) in Games Art in 2010 and Simon Pearson, who graduated with a BA(Hons) in Film and Television Documentary in 2011, have both progressed to a senior level since interning with creative agency, Clearhead.
The opportunity
Clearhead recognise the important role newly graduated students can play within their growing company. Collaborating with local colleges and universities, like the University of Hertfordshire, allows Clearhead to invest in the next generation through their internship program.
Internships allow this company to offer graduates an opportunity to utilise their skills and showcase their talent. At a time when larger companies are tightening their purse strings, this small business recognises the diverse range of knowledge and perspectives University of Hertfordshire graduates can offer their company.
How the University helped
Simon Pearson always knew that he wanted a career in Editing and was ecstatic to have been offered an internship at Clearhead. Simon says: “I am pleased that my degree could be practically applied to my job and has aided me greatly in my fast progression within the company.”
Simon Wood wanted to try something different after graduating with a degree in Games Art. The transferrable skills he had gained while completing his course at the University made this possible.
He says: “Studying at the University of Hertfordshire empowered me to constantly push myself further. My course gave me a diverse education, teaching me a variety of skills that has been massively helpful in my professional career. Working for Clearhead has been a great experience; they have allowed me to try my hand at many different forms of media and practices, from filming and editing to projection mapping and interactive displays. Although when I took the job it was not directly related to gaming I felt it was something I could definitely put all my efforts into, which has definitely paid off as I am now the Senior Graphic designer.”
The result
One year later, Simon Wood is now the Senior Designer at Clearhead, and Simon Pearson has secured the role of Senior Editor. Both graduates believe that their success has resulted from a combination of the degrees they studied at the University of Hertfordshire and the opportunity they were given by interning at Clearhead.
