Informal learning and social spaces
de Havilland Campus
The first project of the 2020 Estates Vision was completed in September 2012 on the de Havilland Campus.
The project involved:
- refurbishment of the Weston Atrium
- construction of a mezzanine study deck
- introduction of a Students' Union Office
- re-modelling of the Weston Auditorium Foyer
Refurbishment of the Weston Atrium
The refurbishment of the Weston Atrium has retained a high degree of flexibility in the space and the events it can host, while introducing facilities to support informal learning, meeting and socialising for staff and students.
The design includes a flexible ground floor with built-in seating capable of hosting large scale events and exhibitions.
The new study deck at first floor level provides additional space for 24/7 informal learning with access to power, wireless connectivity and vending facilities.
Students' Union
A dedicated space and 'shop front' has been constructed for the Students' Union. This is a new presence on the de Havilland Campus.
Close to the Weston Atrium, this new office space brings the Students' Union services directly to the de Havilland Campus students.
Remodeling of the Weston Auditorium Foyer
The Weston Auditorium Foyer has been dramatically improved, increasing its flexibility not only for times when the Auditorium is in use, but during those times when the space is empty.
Loose seating has been integrated along with wireless connectivity, power supply and improved lighting.
The box office has been relocated to a more central location within the Weston Atrium creating additional space within the Foyer.
