  • Charade II and IV: Clemens Stecher

    ‘Charade II’ is a collection of hand-made comics, created in watercolour, India ink and acrylic. It assembles familiar scenes from news coverage, removing them from their context as the artist’s response to media overload.
  • Beyond the Plenum: Paul Teigh and Martin Russell

    Visual Arts

    British duo Paul Teigh and Martin Russell (formally known as PaulMart) have been collaborating since 2002. The work of Teigh and Russell has consistently questioned contemporary art’s internal dynamics, modes of reception and mediation with a highly developed understanding of the history of European decorative arts.

    Coinciding with the Kiss Kiss Kill Kill exhibition, this 2-day, parallel strand symposium aims to bring together international scholars, critics, collectors, graphic artists and cinephiles to explore the issues surrounding the European poster art and the European spy film between 1950-1985.

    Join us over two consecutive Saturdays to study the groundbreaking genre of the forties and fifties, Film Noir. This spin off weekend course will focus on such films as Kiss Me Deadly, The Big Sleep and Double Indemnity, considering its Expressionist roots, its distinctive framing and lighting and its seductive recurring character types.

It’s a great chance for young people to get their songs heard by a wider audience, get feedback and gigging and recoding opportunities.

  • Bad Film Club: Megashark Vs Giant Octopus

    The cult phenomenon of the Bad Film Club comes to Hertfordshire! This is a place where likeminded folk can gather to celebrate the guilty joy that is a good bad movie. The shackles of polite cinema etiquette are discarded as the audience are encouraged to jeer, heckle and participate. Armed only with their wit and their laser pointers Nicko and Joe take you on a journey through bad plot lines, terrible dialogue, awful acting and some of the worst special effects known to man.

Whether you’re a die-fan or a newbie, young and curious or looking for a trip down memory lane, UniComics has an event for you!

  • Understanding Film 2: An Introduction to Film Studies

    Join us and continue to develop your passion for film and the moving image in this second introductory course in Film Studies, with clip-led discussion about directors, genres, film language and style.
