The Orchestra

Concert

The de Havilland Philharmonic (formerly the Philharmonic at UH) is the resident orchestra of the University of Hertfordshire. It brings together the best amateur musicians and instrumental teachers from a wide area, alongside players from top London professional orchestras.

Support by the University enables the orchestra to tackle a diverse repertoire and engage renowned soloists.

The orchestra performs up to seven concerts a year including a family concert, all of which are enjoyed by an enthusiastic audience.

Conductor Robin Browning

Robin BrowningThe de Havilland Philharmonic is led by dynamic young conductor, Robin Browning.

Robin is one of the most acclaimed and successful conductors of his generation. He is currently Music Director of Wimbledon Symphony Orchestra, the Petersfield Orchestra, Essex Youth Orchestra, and Southampton University Symphony Orchestra in addition to his regular concerts with the de Havilland Philharmonic.

He has conducted all over Europe, with recent tours and conducting work taking him to Hungary, Croatia, Holland, Italy, Romania, Spain, Portugal, and the Czech Republic.

de Havilland Philharmonic

The de Havilland Philharmonic is a friendly group of musicians made up of talented amateurs, music teachers, and semi-professionals.

The orchestra welcomes interest from new players and is currently seeking string players of Grade VII standard or above.

Interested musicians are invited to attend open rehearsals.

The orchestra rehearses on Thursday evenings at the University, and can often be found at the Horse and Groom in Old Hatfield later in the evening!
